In a series of tweets this morning, President-Elect Donald Trump announced that he would be holding a press conference in New York City on 15-Dec to discuss leaving his business “in total” in order to fully focus on running the country. Said legal documents being crafted to take him completely out of business operations, though he reiterated his view that he is not mandated to do this under the law. Announcement comes after much recent criticism about potential conflicts of interest given Trump’s far-flung business empire. A recent NY Times review found Trump business operations in at least 20 countries, with several in countries that are in current foreign-policy focus (such as Turkey and the Philippines). While he released no details of the plan, indicated he would be joined at the news conference by his children, who are widely expected to be placed in control. However, this potential move has also raised concerns, given that several of his family members have also been involved in Trump’s transition effort.
